This series contains a mixture of Hollywood and European film stars. There do not appear to have been seven series of coloured movie pictures. Rather this appears to be the seventh series of movie pictures which in this case are coloured. I presume series 1-6 were the photographic sets issued by e.g. Batschari, Jasmatzi and Manoli. The name of the set would normally be written "Bunte Filmbilder" as given in the title index. "Bunten Filmbilder" as given on the back of the cards is a peculiarity of German grammar because the title is preceded by the word "unsere" (our).

I checked the Internet Movie Database. for movies in which the two stars shown on some of the cards co-starred. Most of the ones I could find were in 1934. However one pair came up with a date in 1935, so if the IMDb is complete (which is by no means certain, see below), 1935 is the earliest possible date for this set. I have also seen an album with an inscription indicating that it was given to someone as a Christmas present in 1935, making this the latest possible date.

Quite a few of the pairs turned up no joint ventures, and in some cases, the stars themselves appeared to be unknown. For anyone who is interested, this set presumably contains several unlisted films waiting to be discovered.

Errors and Variations.

There are two main versions of the set, namely with and without album clause. The cards on the left in Figure 1 below (version 1) have no album clause whereas the ones on the right (version 2) note that albums were available for RM1 from dealers.

There appear to be at least two printings of version 2. The most obvious difference is on the picture side where one version (2a), presumably the earlier one, is gloss like the no album clause version. The other (2b), presumably later version, is half-gloss to matt. The difference is most noticeable on the reverse from the text of the card number (Bild Nr.). The text of the 2a version appears more compact like that of version 1. This is illustrated in Figure 2. Figure 1 shows which versions are known for which manufacturer.

The album for the series. It was made in the style of a photo album tied together with a cord. There were various pictures on the front. Some were larger versions of cards from the set whereas others show similar pictures to ones in the set but not identical. Possibly they are pictures which were prepared for the set and not used. So far I have seen Lilian Harvey (card 21), Renate Müller (card 62) (illustrated), Hansi Knoteck and Luise Ulrich. Marta Eggerth has also been reported
