It is difficult to determine which silks belong in this series and which not. Some bird silks in particular have a definite japanese look to them and I wasn't sure whether to put them here or under birds. At present I've decided they belong under birds but maybe I'll change my mind later.
These silks are divided into two groups, those with "kanji" and those without. These characters are the same in Japanese and Chinese and so don't help determine the nationality, but as some of the silks appear to show Mount Fuji I decided they are probably meant to be Japanese. I asked a Japanese colleague if he could translate any of the characters but he couldn't, so either his English wasn't good enough or the characters are not real kanji. So far I have only found "small boat" which bears any resemblance to a character I was able to find.
